We have been trained in the management of complex Dysphagia using Videofluoroscopy (swallow x-rays) and FEES (endoscopy to assess swallowing). We treat people within the UK and Internationally who may not have access to a Speech Therapist in their country.
What is Dysphagia?
Dysphagia is the medical term for swallowing difficulties. These difficulties might be coughing when you are eating and drinking. You may have difficulty chewing or have a sensation of food sticking in your throat.
What causes difficulty swallowing?
There are a range of causes for difficulty swallowing including:
Stroke
Neurological conditions involving the brain
Head and Neck Cancer
Dementia
Respiratory conditions
How does difficulty with swallowing affect people?
It can cause chest infections with food or drink entering the airway. It can result in malnutrition, dehydration and weight loss. It can cause discomfort if there is coughing when they are eating and drinking.

Modifying food or drinks to reduce chest infections
Recommendation of specialist equipment to increase comfort and reduce risk of chest infections
Educate family members in Dysphagia
